Mayor Bradley Provides Update on City Street Works
And there is more good news. The Belize City Council, after a noticeable lull, is back at work cementing major streets in the old capital. Following general elections there was concern raised about the lack of activity as far as city infrastructure is concerned, but Mayor Bradley says that the work continues and eight projects are nearing completion.
Darrell Bradley, Mayor, Belize City
“We’re also doing Regent Street, East Canal and West Canal. There’s a section of East Canal that we didn’t complete from Regent Street West to Bishop Street – that’s going to be completed. Then the entire length of West Canal will be done. We finished Queen Street – that was also in the series of projects that last section that was not done. We finished a section of University Drive that was not done. We’re doing Dolphin Drive. We’re doing the first four hundred feet of Faber’s Road beyond the Central American Boulevard – that’s a section of roadway that’s very bad. So right now in the pipeline we have about eight concrete projects that’s going on, and we’re looking at ways that as soon as this project is finished we can continue. Another major street that’s going to be done which we have already signed off on is the entire length of St. Joseph Street. BWS has I understand finished that so concreting works will start on that very shortly. That’s going to provide a major alleviation from the Freetown Road traffic and also from the Princess Margaret Drive traffic. Again in terms of the concreting works it’s worked very well and we’re looking at ways that we can generate more revenue to do an additional amount of streets after these eight streets are completed.”
