Youth Who Allegedly Shot at ACP Chester Williams Gets Bail

Zachary Knox

Nineteen year old Zachary Knox was released on bail today after spending seven nights on remand at the Belize Central Prison for allegedly committing an aggravated assault with a firearm upon Assistant Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams. Knox posted bail of ten thousand dollars at around five this evening. There have been claims that he was badly beaten by police when he was detained and had to be hospitalized but he has not made any police report on the matter. Knox’s bail application was heard before Justice Madam Antoinette Moore. The bail was granted with conditions in which he must report once a week to the police station and stay away from the victim or any prosecution witness.  Knox also had to surrender his passport to the clerk of court before leaving today as part of the conditions to his bail.  Last Friday, Knox appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza where he was charged for deadly means of harm upon Mark Vernon and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm on Williams. The incident stems from a shooting incident in which police say Vernon was attacked and shot by gunmen. And while responding to the shooting on Euphrates Avenue, A.C.P. Williams claims Knox, alighted a vehicle and shot at him but missed. Knox is due back in court on July twenty-second 2016 when Justin Hyde, Devon Sankey and Larry Wright are also to appear in court for the shooting of Vernon.
