Downs Fined for Traffic Offences
There is another case involving an intoxicated driver. Customer Service Representative, John Downs admitted to driving under the influence of alcohol as he drove a car at the corner of Vernon Street and Mopan Street in the City. At the time he was also without a valid Belizean driver’s license. Downs appeared this morning before Magistrate Emmerita Anderson and pleaded guilty to three traffic offenses for the use of an uninsured vehicle, driving with alcohol concentration above the prescribed limit, and driving a motor vehicle without being the holder of a Belize Driver’s license. While Magistrate Anderson was able to sentence Downs on two traffic offenses, she has refrained from imposing a sentence against him for the alcohol level charge since results of the test to determine if Downs was drunk are still pending. She fined him three hundred dollars for driving without a license and fifty dollars for driving without third party risk insurance. The fines must be paid by August first, 2016. Sentencing for the third offense takes place on July eighth. Police detained Downs on Thursday and found him to be without the required traffic documents. He was also seen to be staggering.
