CODICADER Delegation Arrives in Belize

A delegation of representatives from various countries participating in the upcoming CODICADER Games arrived at the Phillip Goldson International Airport today.  The team is here to conduct an assessment of facilities which will be used for the respective sporting activities.  While a majority of those venues are supposedly up to scratch, work is underway to spruce up the Orange Walk Sporting Complex which will be used for the volleyball competition.  The CODICADER Games are pretty much the Olympics for primary school students across Central America.  It is expected that each country within the region will be represented during the competition.  There is word that Guatemala has opted not to participate because of the existing tensions with Belize.  Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Elodio Aragon Junior spoke with News Five earlier today.

“We have representatives which is basically an assessment team from members of each respective Central American country that is here today.  They have come here because they are going to do an assessment of the facilities that will be hosting the various sporting activities during July eight to the eleventh, of the CODICADER Games in Belize.”

“What are some of those facilities? I know that the Marion Jones is one that is being prepared for the actual launch of the games.  What are the other facilities that will be used for the upcoming games?”

Elodio Aragon

“Well basically we have four games, you know.  You have the football, you have the volleyball, the ping pong and the basketball.  What is happening is that from here they will be moving to Orange Walk.  The first assessment is for the volleyball competition in Orange Walk so they’ll be looking at the facility there.  We have already found resources to kind of give the complex in Orange Walk a facelift in terms of our bathroom facilities and all of that.  So that is something good coming out of this.  From there they will be moving up to Belize City where they are going to look at ping pong area there and from there they will be moving to Cayo, well Belmopan, to look at the football track that we have, the field out there.  All of these facilities I believe are newly built so we shouldn’t have any problem there.  Then we will move on to Cayo, San Ignacio to look at the basketball facility there.  All these facilities are in good shape, I think the only place that we needed to do a little work which is being done as we speak is that of the Orange Walk District at the Orange Walk complex, you know.  But I believe all these facilities will be well equipped and ready to host these games.”
