Colombia Police Claim Biggest Bust in Country’s History

There is a report tonight out of Colombia where the national police agency says fifty commandos have seized eight tons of cocaine on a banana plantation. The drug was reportedly heading for the Caribbean on its way to the United States though it is not known which Caribbean country the drugs would have made its way through. According to the report, it is the biggest cocaine seizure and the commandos backed by helicopters seized the cocaine on a banana plantation in the north-western department of Antioquia. The drug is believed to belong to a gang known as the Clan Usuaga.  The report states that seizures of that size are rare but not unprecedented on a global scale. In March 2007, the U.S. Coast Guard seized nearly twenty tons of cocaine found on a cargo ship, the Gatun, headed from the Panama Canal to a Mexican port. A third, huge bust took place six years earlier, when the Coast Guard found thirteen tons of the drug aboard a Belize-flagged fishing boat that aroused suspicion while off the Mexican coast because it had no working fishing equipment and few fish onboard.
