Transport Operations Officer Says Road Service Permits Must be Reviewed

Tirso Galvez

But is it a situation where the Department is just overwhelmed? Is the lack of supervision, oversight and regulation the cause of the transportation woes? It’s likely, but Galvez says that with so many factors in play, they plan to look first and foremost at the road service permits held by bus operators, and then take it from there.

Tirso Galvez, Operations Officer, Transport Department

“One of the major problems that I believe we are face with at this time is that because we have a lot of players in the industry, and it’s more difficult because of that, and if we would have fewer players then it would be easier to regulate. One of the things that we have been asked to address is the matter of the ticketing – buses to be issuing tickets, and again the ticketing system is something that can be done but also it will take some time because of the many players that we have. Again, the country has grown very much and our terminals basically – remember that some of these terminals that we inherited were from the previous owners, and some of these terminals are not adequate for the amount of buses that we have to receive, so that is probably one of the problems that we are faced with – to have all the buses coming in to the terminals, so it makes it difficult. You realize that some village buses have to find parking space within the municipalities and then it is hard to monitor them. One, we do not have the manpower to be monitoring those muses to ensure that they are leaving on time. Like I mentioned, to me what would be needed is to look basically at what exists now and how we could fix it by issuing the proper road service permits for these operators.”

  1. Tirso says:

Dear sir- please put some speed regulators in place so they don’t speed and kill someone on new northern highway- also stop that little blinking light on top that serves no useful purpose other than blinding the driver driving behind it the whole way- finally- ticket them when they deliberately stop in the middle of highway frequently and anywhere stopping traffic just because they don’t want to wait to come back into traffic or worse- have another bus pass them- do these 3 things and you will be a silent hero to the rest of us- fail like all others and you are just another spineless placeholder killing time and people
