Pregnant Mother Fined $10,000 for Drug Trafficking

Nicole Flowers

An expecting mother, five months into her pregnancy, was fined ten thousand dollars today after pleading guilty to drug trafficking.  Twenty-three-year-old Nicole Flowers appeared before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza this morning, after being busted with sixteen pounds of marijuana in May of last year.  The discovery was made by members of the Gang Suppression Unit during an operation on Flamboyant Street.  When the officers approached her, they found five parcels of weed concealed inside her purse.  They then proceeded to escort Flowers to her home on Jasmine Street where they found an additional eleven pounds inside a room.  The pregnant mother initial pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking.  When she was subsequently questioned about the origin of the drugs, she told the court that she received it from an unnamed individual who requested that she hold on to the parcels for him.  Flowers was facing up to three years in prison and a fine of ten thousand dollars.  That substantial fine has been imposed on her and she has until December thirty-first to defray it in full or in default she will serve three years in prison.
