P.U.P. Leader Says G.O.B. Cannot Sweep Plett Issue under the Rug
Since the start of this week News Five has been bringing you the remarkable story of an alleged cross-border kidnapping, albeit a short-lived one. We’ve spoken at length with Roger Plett, one of the men who claimed that he was taken across the border by Guatemalan military and civilians, and tied up. On Wednesday night we also brought you Government’s side, with the upshot that the O.A.S. has been formally asked to conduct a verification exercise. Today John Briceño reiterated the message in a release sent out by the P.U.P. on Tuesday, calling for the Government to conduct a real and comprehensive investigation.
John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader
“Here we have these people saying they were abducted by the Guatemalans and we need to take that seriously. We can’t just turn a blind eye to it. We need to investigate it and if that happened then we need to send a strong protect note to Guatemala. We can’t allow the Guatemalans to come in at will in our country. We’re not doing that. I don’t take that lightly. We need to take that seriously and to take a good look at what took place and not try to cover it up because it does not suit the government. We need to do what suits the Belizean people, what suits this country and not what suits the political directorate.”
OAS? Waste of time. Police investigation? A joke!
