Robinson Will Serve Jail time for Illegal Firearm

Anthony Robinson

One of four men busted inside a car on February fifteenth, 2016 for firearm offenses will serve only two years and a half behind bars instead of a minimum of a five-sentence.  Twenty-nine year old Anthony Robinson was sentenced today after he pleaded guilty to kept unlicensed firearm and ammunition which the GSU found inside his vehicle. Robinson, along with Richard Flores, Deshane Mena and Leich Bermudez appeared before Chief Magistrate Anne Marie Smith. But Robinson changed his not guilty plea to guilty and the others pleaded not guilty.  His attorney asked the court for mercy on his behalf since Robinson has no previous conviction for any firearm related offenses.   The Chief Magistrate noted in court that she is guided by the recent remark by Chief Justice Kenneth Benjamin that the mandatory five-year minimum sentence for the offense is unconstitutional.  So today, after careful consideration, the Chief Magistrate determined that Robinson will spend another two and a half years behind bars.     Prosecutor in the case, Inspector Egbert Castillo withdrew the charges from Flores, Bermudez and Mena and they were all free to go.
