Gunman Fires at Top Southside Cop

There was an attempt on the life of top cop, Chester Williams who has been strengthening community outreach with the police as a way of reducing crime and violence in the city. But tonight nineteen year old Zacharia Knox is in custody after he attempted to kill Assistant Commissioner of Police Chester Williams on Thursday night. According to Williams he had just received reports of a shooting on West Street when he came upon the black pickup which matched the description of the one carrying the shooters. Even though he was not on duty Williams set chase after the vehicle through the streets of Southside Belize City, until it came to a stop at the junction of North Creek and Curassow Street.

“The vehicle came to a sudden stop and I was very close to the vehicle. Concerned that I was unarmed I reversed a bit and I opened my vehicle door to approach the vehicle. As I did so a person whom I recognized immediately as Zacharia Knox came out of the front passenger seat of the vehicle and he stepped towards me. He was armed with what appeared to be a 9mm pistol and he fired three shots in my direction. Fortunately he missed. I was there for a while, and the vehicle was still parked while he fired shots at me. As he finished doing so he ran over the one man bridge into South Creek then into the Supal Street area. I knew who he was so I didn’t bother to pursue him. The vehicle sped off and I continued to pursue the vehicle. I was more interested in knowing who the occupants of the vehicle were. The hot pursuit continued from there, from Curassow Street into Raccoon Street into the boulevard while I communicated with Police Officers on the communication network. I told them to block Faber’s Road. They did so and when they arrived on Faber’s Road the vehicle had nowhere to go because the Police were there – Police in front and me to the back. We intercepted the vehicle which had three occupants in it. The driver was one Larry Wright. Accompanying him in the vehicle was Justin Hyde from Jane Usher and one Devon Sankey. You’ll recall he was just released from a murder. He is from the Supal Street area and is the brother of the now deceased Keon Williams.”

Don’t worry about nothing Zachariah. Very soon the case file will go “missing”, and then, well, there you go.
