111 Credit Cards Found Inside Their Apartment

During arraignment today, the police claimed that the scam begun on September seventh, 2015. The men were detained on Saturday and taken to their room at Easy Inn on the Phillip Goldson Highway, where one hundred and eleven credit cards which did not have the issuing bank or card holder names were discovered. Also found were twenty-one thousand five hundred and seventy dollars in different denominations. Investigation also revealed that in January and March of this year, fraudulent transactions were conducted across Belize Bank ATMs in the city. The duo entered the country last Thursday and was caught on Saturday around eleven-forty-five a.m.

“Mister Selgado, you basically alluded to the fact that these persons, these two accused persons, are members of a larger international criminal ring. Can you elaborate on that?”

Christelle Wilson, Attorney for Jeorgi Petrov

“Well not my client.”

Oscar Selgado

“Let me clear what I said. I said that if there is a fraud as is alleged by the bank, then our clients are saying they did not manufacture any credit card; they did not originate…where these banks accounts were originated from are foreigners. Our clients are saying to us that they are people who don’t know about the credit cards. So that if there is a ring, there has to be bigger players, bigger people involved. So that is what I was alluded at. So rather than to prosecute two people, listen to us, we will get what our clients know—if they know anything—and we will divulge to the bank so that FIU gets involve, the bank gets involve Interpol gets involved. What we are saying to the bank is why hastily prosecute two people and there could possibly be a ring. So why not close the ring.”

“Then can you speak to the hundred and eleven credit cards that were found without the corresponding bank or without the name of the credit card holders that were allegedly found in the possession of your clients?”

Oscar Selgado

“None of us will be able to speak to that because that fact was only made to the court today. And none of that was divulged to us. In fact the police have not showed us any credit card; not even one. The police has not showed us not one phony credit card.”

Christelle Wilson

“And we still do not know the amount of money that the bank is alleging was taken from the bank so really and truly there is nothing before the court for our clients to answer to at this moment.”

The duo was denied bail and go back to court on May twentieth.
