Were Police Involved in the Shooting Death of 2 Camalote Youths

Irvin Thimbriel

In addition to the already disturbing indication of an execution summoned to settle an altercation earlier Sunday, there is also the allegation that police officers may have been involved very directly in the murders. The family of slain Akeem Thimbriel has heard the same thing, and so has Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett, the man coordinating the investigation into the brutal crime in Camalote.

“He spoke at the scene and he identified; he tell the young lady who was the first one on the scene said I am Thimbriel, call the police. So she said when she found him, he was crawling, but the guys who did the shooting…she said one of them was coming out of the back of the vehicle and it looked like they were going to finish him off because he was still alive. And so when she met him, he was crawling, but she said when she came out she said police because she saw the guys dressed in camouflage and she identified them and said police and then the guys got back in the vehicle and they drove off.”

Sr. Supt. Howell Gillett, Officer Commanding, Belmopan Formation

“We’ve heard that just like you’ve heard because we have been out there canvassing the area ever since the incident took place. And so far it remains a rumor and based on the investigation I can see why people might have thought…I think it has more to do with the type of vehicle that was used, could be that it resembled police type vehicles. Not the Ford F-150s but other types of police vehicles being used by other units within the police department. So I think it is just a rumor at the moment, but we can dispel that after the investigation is complete and thorough investigation is done. But in any case, if it is a police officer, he or she will be dealt with the same way how anybody else is dealt with when there is a crime of this nature.”
