Senator Eamon Courtenay PUP Representative on Negotiations

Assad Shoman

And where the Opposition’s participation in the Belize/Guatemala talks is concerned, there is very significant news. Ambassador Assad Shoman is out, and Ambassador Eamon Courtenay is in. We could not confirm whether the very sudden removal of Shoman as P.U.P. Representative is based on the fact that last week he stated that he is not a member of the P.U.P., but from what we can say, Courtenay was the original lead on the P.U.P. team. This brings a whole new element to the dynamic on the high level team representing Belize. Today, Briceño made the announcement just after a meeting with O.A.S. Secretary-General Luis Almagro.

John Briceño

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“I set up a team of former P.U.P. advisors and he was a former Foreign Minister under the P.U.P. government and that is why he was invited to be a part of the team. I want to thank Assad for the great work that he has been doing for Belize and for us as a government and as a Party…for the good and great advice that he has been giving us as part of the team. But now we have officially pointed out that Eamon Courtenay is our Party’s representative when it comes to Belize/Guatemala when we’re dealing with the government and Eamon is going to continue that work.”

What an idiotic move- nothin wrong with Eamon but Assad just better and respected more by guats and internationally. Just as I bought pup was maturing- they show how fickle they are.

Very good Party leader. At the BNTU meeting It was clear that Mr Shoman can not represent the PUP. Several time in his presentation hr was clear that he is not a PUP. So I wonder hoe can he represent the PUP’s interest. I recognize him to be a very intelligent person in the matter but then he has to recognize whom he represents. I was surprise when he said that he was the first one to say that our boarders are imaginary. Many teacher were offended by this.
