TR Shine Denied Visa to Attend Upcoming Music Festival

TR Shine

The festival is set for next week and the Belizean artists are to head to New Orleans next Monday. But there’s a major hiccup because all members of TR’s band were granted visas; that is except for the lead singer himself, TR Shine. TR holds both Canadian and Belizean passports, but last week Wednesday after initially approving a visa, the U.S. Embassy reportedly declined the permanent artist working visa, known as the P-Three, which would allow him to perform at the Jazz Festival. Today he returned to the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan in the hope that the decision will be reconsidered, but it remains in the negative due to an old charge of drug trafficking. TR says that his band is now seeking the assistance of the government to intervene with the U.S.

TR Shine, Artist

“Was denied twice at the embassy because of a drug charge I did about seven, eight years ago.”

Duane Moody

“Talk to us about what happened? I believe it started last week.”

TR Shine

“Well I went in for the first interview on my Canadian passport in order to attain that P3 visa and I was denied because of the drug charge. Actually they approved the visa the twenty-ninth and called me back the thirtieth and told me that they needed some other documentations. So I provided that and they just denied it when I went back. And I went again, tried again and then it was denied once again under the same drug charge thingy. As a young Belizean artist, I’ve been working very hard, trying to be a role model for every other artist and people that are looking up to me, especially all these kids that love my song. And it kinda tampers our band because our band members—most of our band members have been selected and granted visas except me which is the leader singer of the band. It’s like what is the sense of giving them and not giving me, right. At this moment we are just trying to find any way that we can get an appeal from our government and I would like to say the ambassador has been by my side very fluently trying to help me get and attain this P3 visa, but we are now sending out a plea to the government to help us get something diplomatic in order for us to travel. I’ve been traveling to America on my Canadian passport frequently and there were discrepancies at all where I got caught up with the trafficking.”

Duane Moody

“So why now?”

TR Shine

“…things happen like these. But it doesn’t frame me as a person that I once was. That was being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The man that I am now is different today. Music has evolved and changed my life totally. So I am a role model to enough out there you know. And I keep always maintaining this professionalism as an artist.”

Sad…but TR Shine…you reap what you sow…this is your past coming back to haunt you. The US Embassy is just following its guide lines, so they should make an exception for you?? Now there is the true question…..

  2. Rose says:

The government cannot intervene in the decisions of any diplomatic mission in the granting of a visa. It is the sole decision of any embassy if they wish to grant a visa or not.

Your past catching up with you!
