Victor Sagastume is Busted for Cocaine Possession

Victor Sagastume

A Guatemalan national residing in San Martin Village, Belmopan is facing five criminal offenses tonight. It all went downhill for Victor Sagatume after police searched and found on him point two grams of cocaine on Sunday while the cops were on mobile patrol through Taylors Alley in Belize City. While he was being escorted to the station, police say he began to resist arrest and when he arrived at the station, he was able to pull off an escape, but was soon recaptured.  This morning, Sagatume appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Deborah Rogers. He pleaded guilty to five counts: possession of a controlled drug, escape, resisting arrest, aggravated assault upon a police officer and wounding for biting the police officer on his finger while he was being subdued.  Since Sagatume is not a Belizean and there is the possibility that he may not pay a fine or abscond, Magistrate Rogers imposed a ten-month prison term for possession, eight months for wounding, six months for escape, six months for aggravated assault and four months for resisting.
