U.D.P. Campaign for Deputy Leader Heating Up

On last night’s newscast we showed you an undecided Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez, senior U.D.P. Minister who says he’s not quite ready to come public with who he supports for First Deputy Leader of the Party. Best reports are that he is leaning away from his Southside colleague Patrick Faber and looking West at John Saldivar. Only Saldivar and Faber have officially launched their campaigns, and despite unofficial rumblings, it is unlikely that any others in the U.D.P. camp will step into the ring. Faber’s campaign has been flamboyant in the social media arena, and at last count he claimed support from three U.D.P. ministers, seven UDP caretakers and two Mayors. Saldivar has been less visible, but by no means still in the starting gate. Minister and U.D.P. Second Deputy Leader Erwin Contreras, as well as Ministers Frank ‘Papa’ Mena and Edmond Castro have all public endorsed Saldivar’s candidacy. And late this evening, News Five received reliable information that Juan Coy, U.D.P. Toledo East caretaker who previously pledged support for Faber, has now endorsed Saldivar. But in an ad aired today, the Dangriga mayor pledges support for Faber, who is also eyeing the delegates for their vote. Now, support from the very powerful Anthony ‘Boots’ Martinez would be a significant feather in Saldivar’s hat, but only time will tell how that works out, and like in all campaigns, any number can play up until the last vote is cast.
