Cano Says His Next Stop Will Be the Pro League

Tariq Cano

Cano, who was employed with the Belize Bank for some years, decided to give up the business suit for a cycling jersey. The twenty-five year old says his goal is to become the first Belizean born to enter the professional leagues.

Tariq Cano, Cyclist

“It started last year. What you have to do is gain enough points to be invited to most of these races or have a bit of connection and just get your name out there and race and race. So the more races, the more podium finishes or wins that I can accomplish in the next year or two will help to get that contract.”

Duane Moody

“What is it that cyclists who would want to take advantage of what you are doing? How can they become a part of that?”

Tariq Cano

“Well the truth is they have to don’t give up. I started last year chasing back this dream and it is going to be a four year process along with my coach Anthony Taylor from New York. He’s been a massive help along with my sponsors Smart, Atlantic International Bank, Belize Dreams and Coco Plum. I mean I went around asking for hope, explaining to them what I want to do and they gave me the support. At the end of the day, you just have to go for it because not everybody is gonna believe in what you have to do and what you want to accomplish. But as long as you don’t give up, it is possible.”
