HIV/AIDS Awareness Sees Launch of Mobile App

A mobile application to test your knowledge of HIV/AIDS was launched by the National AIDS Commission earlier today.  The product of two years of careful research, development and meticulous fine tuning, Infection made its official debut this morning on Google Play.  Its launch was also celebrated during a brief ceremony at the secretariat.  David Alfaro, coordinator of Code It, is the software developer who spearheaded the project.

“This app was originally part of a competition.  It was actually a way to teach young persons about how to prevent HIV.  So we went through a process of designing an application that informative, educational and actually fun so that we can have different age ranges, persons working for or playing with the application.  So we have the best developers we have in school, as students, to develop that.”

“What was the timeline in terms of getting this app off the ground, up and running?”

David Alfaro

“Well, at the beginning it was a competition so we just had two months and we did the first draft of it.  After that we had the first release six months later but we went through a process of feedbacks and meetings that NAC started to ask for something, some requirements.  So the total amount of time that we spent making the app up to now is two years.”
