Mario Trotman Murdered Near Dyke

Mario Trotman

Over the weekend, a thirty-four year old woman was shot and killed in a taxi. Her murder remains unresolved. Today, Belize City police have another murder on their hands to solve. This morning around ten-thirty, the body of eighteen year old Mario Trotman was retrieved from the canal near the dyke off Faber’s Road. Trotman’s body had gunshot wounds to the head and it is believed he was lured to the area and murdered. Police say the investigation is in its initial phase and few details are available.

Supt. Hilberto Romero, O.C., CIB, Belize City

“How many shots did he receive?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We are not sure at this time. The postmortem is being conducted and that will determine how much times he was shot. We observed a gunshot injury to the head. Based on information received and after investigations were conducted into the matter, police searched that general area. We had the assistance of our K9 unit and members of the Belize National Coast Guard; the general area was searched which led to the discovery of the body.”

“Is it believed that this murder was as a result of gang rivalry or gang affiliations in that area?”

Supt. Hilberto Romero

“We are at an early stage of this investigation and we are doing some interviews and we cannot conclude what the motive is at this time, but we are doing follow up work and we have two persons in custody.”
