Dean Parks and 13-year-old Son Shot Inside Their Home

The Eastern Division South unit is also investigating a shooting on Monday night in Belize City. Around ten-thirty p.m., a gunman came up to the barracks at the corner of Jasmine Street and Marigold Lane and opened fire at an apartment. Inside were forty-seven year old Dean Parks and his thirteen year old son. Parks was shot to the right side of his jaw and right shoulder and his son received a single gunshot to the right arm. They were both taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

ACP Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“Since that shooting, both persons were taken to the K.H.M.H. where both persons have been admitted in a stable condition; neither injuries are life-threatening and the police investigation in that matter continues.”

“So it is a matter of gunmen actually going up to the house while they were sleeping and just opened fire on the house?”

Chester Williams

ACP Chester Williams

“Yes, from what we are gathering, the gunman is a relatively young person and this is one of the trends that we are seeing that many young persons are being used by the senior folks in the gangs to do these kinda crimes. We have an idea of basically who this person is and we have that person in custody and our investigation continues around that person to see if we can gather the evidence that we need to be able to charge him.”

“Is it believed to be gang related?”

ACP Chester Williams

“At this time, it has been difficult for us to establish a motive. We cannot say if it is gang related or there are other circumstances that may have resulted in the shooting, but we are still looking into it.”

Duane Moody

“Sir has anyone been detained for this?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Like I said, we have one person in custody who we believe is the gunman or the gun boy.”

Duane Moody

“Is it someone from the area?”

ACP Chester Williams

“Yes, the person is from the area.”

Police investigation continues.
