International Friendly Sees Belmopan Bandits Facing El Progresso

John Saldivar

The Belmopan Bandits are set to play El Progreso of Honduras in an international friendly tonight at the newly reopened Isidoro Beaton Stadium.  Hundreds of football fans are already gathering at the sporting complex to cheer on the powerhouse that John Saldivar built.  It is a showcase that will feature Belize’s best doing battle with the pride of Honduras.  Needless to say, Saldivar, who also wears the hat as team owner, is excited about the opportunity to truly put his players to the test on the synthetic surface.

John Saldivar, Team Owner, Belmopan Bandits FC

“First of all I want to say thanks to the management of El Progreso and thanks particularly to Woodrow West who helped us to secure this game.  We are very excited, it is the type of friendly international match that we want to see on a more regular basis here in Belize and so we hope that this is the start of something regular for the Belizean football fan, to have international teams, regional teams come to play against our local clubs.  And so I am expecting that the Bandits will compete.  You know that there is the possibility that we may meet in Champions League if we are able to qualify after this closing tournament.  You know that El Progreso has already qualified to Champions League so this is a possible match up for the Bandits and so we look forward to testing our mettle against them.”

Tickets for the game are retailing at twenty-five dollars each.
