Jane Usher Resident Arraigned for Burglary and Wounding

Eldon Bevans

A resident of Jane Usher Boulevard, Belize City, was also before the court today for two criminal offenses. Thirty-seven year old Eldon Bevans was charged for burglary and wounding after he found out that his ex-common-law-wife was in a relationship with another man. Bevans is accused of illegally entering the house of Calbert Ferguson with the intent to cause him grievous harm on January fifth, 2016. The wounding charge is for injuries sustained by Ferguson when he was assaulted and rendered unconscious. When Ferguson woke up, he was at the K.H.M.H.  From his bedside, he told police that he was at a home on Linda Vista Street with his common-law-wife, Tenisha Vernon, and their two kids watching the television, when he was hit on the head by Bevans. Initially, Bevans wanted to plead guilty to the offenses and on asking the Senior Magistrate for leniency he claimed his ex-common-law-wife was the cause of his actions. Bevans told the court that they were together for eight years and had no knowledge she was also involved with Ferguson.  After the facts were read out in court, Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser asked Bevans if he maintained a guilty plea and it was at this time that he said not guilty. He told the court that he never entered the house as the facts stated, instead he was in yard.  Since there was no objection, she granted him bail with conditions and he is to return to court in April 2016.
