Police Officers Cracking Down on Alcohol Use and Abuse

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster

In March 2014, as Belizeans celebrated the Ruta Maya River Challenge, three persons lost their lives in a terrible road traffic accident in Burrell Boom. One of them was a three-year-old child. Those are memories which die hard, and the Police will also be increasing vigilance on canoe race enthusiasts and party-goers who may end up getting behind the wheel after drinking too much.

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster, Commander, Rural Eastern Division

“We will have officers at Henderson Bank. We will have officers at Burrell Boom where the race will be overnighting. And we will have officers along the route where people normally congregate. We will be very vigilant in checking vehicles and removing open bottles of alcohol that are in the vehicle especially when there is only the driver and so forth. We want to create a safe environment for everyone so that they can enjoy the event during this time.”
