Cordel Hyde Says the P.U.P. Will Unite

Cordel Hyde

So in the wake of a less than amiable convention in some quarters, will the grand old party be able to overcome the pervasive division which has characterized it even prior to 2008? Cordel Hyde says that the party has to if it is to ever become politically feasible in elections to come.

Cordel Hyde, Area Representative, Lake Independence

“That’s been the clear message from people all over the country inside the party; that they want the party to work together, to fight together, to return to government. It’s been a long time since we won an election, since 2003. We’ve had nine defeats in nine years starting in 2006 and I think our people are tired of losing. That’s been clear and they want us to work together to put our best foot forward so that we could reach Belmopan. And it is going to take a gargantuan effort to get there and it’s gonna require all our hands. And so, yes I think it’s…man, listen, we had a convention last week Sunday; thousands of people voted. At the end of the day, John won and everybody has to respect that. Everybody has to get behind the new leader because it is important that we stand unified in the presence of the challenges we have. And so I fully expect that we’re going to be unified and we’re going to get things done.”

As to why Hyde did not make it to the swearing in at Independence Hall, he said he needed time to recoup.
