Belize City Man Arraigned for Drug Trafficking

Mark Lopez

Today in court, Mark Lopez, a resident of Faber’s Road, Belize City was arraigned on a single charge of drug trafficking for ninety-four grams of cannabis. He appeared before Magistrate Deborah Rogers along with Aaron Reynolds of Biscayne Village. But Lopez may be in far more trouble because he is a suspect in the double murder in Orange Town on Monday in which Rene Acevedo and Erlindo Matura Junior were shot and killed in broad daylight. Lopez initially pleaded guilty, but had a change of mind and changed his plea to not guilty in respect of the drug trafficking charge.  He and Reynolds were offered bail in the sum of six thousand dollars.  But freedom was short-lived for Lopez who was quickly detained by the Gang Suppression Unit in respect of the double murder in Orange Walk Town.  The duo is due back in Court on April fifth, 2016.  Lopez is the brother of slain George Street associate, Kareem Lopez, aka “Robbery”, who was gunned down in 2015. One man is on remand for that murder.
