Police Investigate RTA at Mile 7 on the Phillip Goldson Highway

Aside from the fatal accident that claimed the life of forty-seven year old Egbert Ferguson, there were three other accidents today alone on the Phillip Goldson and the George Price Highways. This morning just after nine o’clock, sixty-two year old Lloyd Foreman was knocked off his bicycle between miles six and seven on the Phillip Goldson Highway. The farmer of Buttonwood Bay in Belize City was traveling towards Ladyville when he was hit from behind by a pickup truck driven by Nelson Hemsley. Police say that Hemsley was also traveling towards Ladyville and despite his attempt to avoid hitting Foreman, he did. The impact sent Foreman to the bushes and he was rushed by ambulance to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. News Five spoke with Inspector Juanito Cocom about the RTA.

Insp. Juanito Cocom, O.C., Ladyville Police

“About nine-twenty a.m., Ladyville police responded to the scene of a road traffic accident between miles six and seven on the Philip Goldson Highway. Upon arrival, police observed a male person lying on the right hand side of the highway when coming from the direction of Belize City to Ladyville. He was bleeding profusely from the nose. Police also observed a bicycle beside the person with the back portion damaged. Investigation so far revealed that one Nelson Hemsley was driving a four-fifty pickup from Belize City to Ladyville and upon passing mile six and seven he observed a cyclist in front of him and in front of the cyclist, there was another vehicle. He noticed that the vehicle in front of the cyclist suddenly stopped and the cyclist stopped as well. In an effort to avoid hitting the cyclist direct, he swerved however the vehicle still managed to knock the cyclist to the back portion.”

always riding up and down highway picking up things from people’s yards when they re at work-was bound to happen with all that scoping out homes and not looking where he is riding like most other cyclists.
