G.O.B. Nervous About Pending Telemedia Arbitration Ruling

Joseph Waight

According to Waight, a payment of fifty million dollars is due in a few weeks time. That’s cause for anxiety, but there’s another financial storm looming. When Prime Minister Dean Barrow settled his Belize Telemedia woes just before election for one hundred and sixty million dollars…that was only part payment! There’s an arbitration panel getting set to hand down a figure based on B.T.L.’s share value. We’re talking a potential additional payment of around two hundred million dollars. If those figures make your head spin, they’ve been causing the Financial Secretary sleepless nights.

Joseph Waight, Financial Secretary

“Every day we wake up and we expect to hear something, but no…nothing at all. And that process can’t be rushed and we’re not in a position to enquire. We can’t rush the Court. So nothing new.”

“From what you say I can see that it is of concern.”

Joseph Waight

“It’s a national concern…concern to us, because we don’t know when and what amount. We just have to wait.”
