Minister of National Security Says Work Has Commenced at Sarstoon FOB

John Saldivar

Since breaking ground for a new forward operating base near the mouth of the Sarstoon River in December 2015, the much talked about military installation has seemingly taken a backseat to other national issues.  That’s not to say that the project has stalled.  In fact, Minister of National Security John Saldivar says that work has commenced at the southernmost end of the country.  Viewers would recall that Saldivar led a delegation of government officials to the Sarstoon area on his maiden voyage on December seventh.  Since then he has been planning a return trip to the site to follow up on the progress of the construction.

“I must also mention that with regard to the groundbreaking for the forward operating base at the Sarstoon which is now behind us with the work already started, I plan to visit the Sarstoon again in February to observe the work now in progress.  The Ministry of National Security has invested a lot in the force, not only in terms of human resources but also in equipment. On my recent visit down south to the groundbreaking of the forward operating base at the mouth of the Sarstoon River, I also visited the observation post at Cadenas.  There I was able to appreciate the work and sacrifice of the men and women who wear our army’s uniform.  I also got a firsthand impression of the challenges faced by our soldiers while living and serving in the jungles of Belize.  They must be in fit shape and form at all times and properly execute their duties.”
