Belizean Law Student in Guyana Recovering from Gunshot Wounds

Glenfield Dennison

Thirty-one-year-old Glenfield Dennison, a Belizean law student in Guyana, has been taken off life-support after being shot multiple times in Georgetown on Thursday night. Dennison, who is presently attending the University of Guyana, was returning to his residence at Cummings Lodge after reportedly dropping off his girlfriend, a fellow student at UG, when he was attacked by an unknown assailant.  During the attack, he was shot to the chest and left arm.  He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was placed in an induced coma before undergoing emergency surgery.  While Dennison has since resumed breathing on his own, we are reliably informed that he remains in the Intensive Care Unit where he is being monitored closely.  His family was desperately seeking public assistance to aid with his mother’s travel expenses and tonight, she is at her son’s bedside in Georgetown where he is still listed in a critical condition.  The attack on Dennison is being investigated by police in Guyana; however, robbery has been ruled out as a motive for the near-fatal shooting. According to Guyanese newspaper Stabroek News, Dennison’s ex-girlfriend is being sought for questioning as she is believed to have useful information about the attack.
