Cayo family left homeless by fire

Story Picture
A fire this morning in Santa Elena Town has left one family homeless. Around ten thirty this morning a passerby noticed smoke coming from the upstairs of a house at number eighty nine George Price Avenue and alerted one of the occupants, police constable Jose Sierra Junior, who was downstairs. According to fire service officer in charge in San Ignacio Ronald Frazer, by the time the first fire truck arrived on the scene, the fire was already in the free burning stage. The entire upper flat along with its contents was destroyed, while the downstairs suffered only heat and water damage. According to Frazer the exact cause of the fire has not been determined but it is believed that an electrical fault in the wiring inside the ceiling of one of the back rooms is where the blaze started. While the victims and some Santa Elena residents have criticized the fire service for arriving to the scene late, Frazer says that no calls came into the station about the fire, but that firemen were alerted only after they heard a report on Love FM. Fraser is appealing to the public to use the emergency numbers first to contact the fire service instead of trying to do so through the media.
