Maykon Vivas Perishes in Head-on Collision with Land Cruiser on Old Northern Road

A road traffic accident on Saturday proved fatal for a nineteen-year-old cyclist when he collided head-on into a vehicle whilst rounding a curve near Altun Ha, on the Old Northern Highway.  Sometime before three o’clock that afternoon, Maykon Vivas, a resident of Lucky Strike Village perished at the scene of the collision.  Upon arriving in the area, officers observed this black, Meilun motorcycle in the middle of the road and its driver, a Hispanic male, lying motionless approximately nine feet away.  According to forty-seven-year-old Joan Crooks, the driver of the oncoming vehicle, she was returning from the archaeological site with four other passengers when Vivas suddenly crashed into the front of her Toyota Land Cruiser.  Rural Eastern Division Commander, Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster.

“The second accident which was the fatal accident occurred on Saturday at Mile Twenty-four and three-quarter on the Northern Highway where a Meilun black motorcycle with license plate 3377, collided into a Toyota Land Cruiser [with license plate number] BZC 24981 which was driven by one Joan Crooks, forty-seven-years-old of 903 Bella Vista and was insured by RF&G.  Unfortunately Mr. Maykon Vivas, nineteen-years-old delivery manager of Lucky Strike succumbed to the injuries received in this incident.  I think the Old Northern Highway needs signs yes, to indicate speed limit and so forth.  At this time we have one highway patrol.  We’re hoping to get another vehicle where we’ll be having highway patrols from Maskall to Sand Hill.  So that in itself will probably alleviate that problem of speeding in that area.”

Joan Crooks, an accountant by profession, has been detained pending charges.
