Bench painting continues at park

Story Picture
The “Art in Motion” project today got fresh instalment to its bench museum at the Battlefield Park. Thirty-two year old Walter Castillo, originally from Nicaragua, but who now resides in San Pedro, spent the afternoon painting a mural on one of the area’s many benches. Castillo says apart from depicting the happier side of life in Belize his art also carries a powerful message.

Walter Castillo, Artist

?I believe that here in Belize we are very vibrant people, very talented people especially the young people and that?s what I am trying to represent here with the people to show them that we have such a beautiful country, with the sea, and a great culture. There is also a variety of culture also that we can draw so much inspiration from this variety of culture, enjoy this beautiful country of ours which is Belize, right. And the reason that I put all these things, the words in it is to show the people and actually remind us that we don?t need to pick up guns or pick up drugs and things like that. We can really live a clean healthy life with what we have which is these palm trees. I think that?s it?s just a beautiful lifestyle that we can create for ourselves and the resource is right in front of our hands.?

Apart from Castillo other artists who have contributed to the project include Pen Cayetano, Lita Krohn and Edgar Gomez.
