Taxi Man Gunned Down in Belmopan

Isidro Suar

Eleven days into the New Year and the police department is recording its sixth murder. Over the weekend, as many as four persons were brutally killed. We start with the murders of two taxi men…both young, Hispanic and living in the same general area of Belmopan. Both worked at the same stand by the bus terminal, both were good friends. And both are dead, gunned down over the weekend. The body of Isidro Suar was found on the George Price Boulevard Friday night, and on Sunday morning the decomposed body of Yoni Maas was discovered in a remote area of Mount Pleasant. Are the murders connected, and are the persons currently detained by Police responsible for either, or maybe both, execution style murders? News Five’s Mike Rudon was in Belmopan today, and we start with the first homicide on Friday night.

One large bloodstain is all that remains at the scene where taxi man Isidro Suar died, on the George Price Boulevard in the Piccini Area of Belmopan. At around eleven Friday night residents heard gunshots and a car speeding off.

Insp. Stephanie Grinage, Deputy Commander, Belmopan Police Formation

“Belmopan Police responded to a distress call of shots being fired in the Georg Price area, Piccini Site. On arrival at the area, police discovered a young man apparently dead. The lifeless body was identified as Isidro Suar, twenty-eight year old Belizean taxi driver of a Salvapan area with four apparent gunshot wounds to his body.”

“On Friday at three in the afternoon…that was the last time I saw him alive. Up to nine that night we were still texting each other, but at ten he stopped answering.”

Lincoln Bejerano

Suar’s taxi was not in the vicinity, and Belmopan Police acted swiftly to set up a checkpoint in Ontario Village. There was a significant break in the case not long after, the result of good coordination and good luck.

Insp. Stephanie Grinage

“Shortly after the incident, Belmopan police quick thinking and coordination, the Belmopan Quick Response Team and Special Branch intercepted a taxi in Ontario Village where three occupants were in. one managed to escape and the other two were detained. The person that was detained was searched and he was found with twelve live point thirty-eight rounds along with a female minor. A point twenty-two pistol was also found along with three live rounds in the area.”

The man caught at that checkpoint was twenty-five year old Lincoln Bejerano. On his Facebook page he claims to be from Tijuana, Mexico, but he has a Belizean passport. Suar’s common-law-wife, Marisela Lino, is very familiar with the name, and is not surprised at the connection being made.

“He came one time and started to tell me that he was being threatened by Lincoln, and Lincoln wanted to take away his money. Several times Lincoln took away his money, putting a gun at his head and he left him. He (Lincoln) always called and put a woman on the phone to pretend that it was a job. Then when the female would come out they would get in and threatened him to take them places to go rob people and they put their things in his vehicle. He never did it, and then they would threaten to kill him to keep him from talking. I always talked to him and told him to tell me his problems. And he would tell me that Lincoln would always threaten to kill him if he didn’t do what they wanted.”

Insp. Stephanie Grinage

“So far it’s the taxi like I said and Mister Suar was shot with a point twenty-two pistol and a point twenty-two pistol was found in the area where these persons were captured.”

Marisela Lino [Translated]

“What I want is justice, because he said that they can’t charge him, and they found him in my husband’s taxi, and he had bullets in his pocket. The Police are saying that they might not charge him and maybe he would go free, the man who did it.”

Suar had four children. The only child he shared with Lino is only three months old. Mike Rudon for News Five.

How on earth can they not charge him if they have more than enough evidence!? It is so sad what Belize is coming to. All these immigrants doing whatever they want converting our small little country into a mini Mexico, Honduras or wherever they come from! Atrocious!

  3. Marie says:

This country useto be so peaceful, but now is becoming very dangerous, good job to the police and community that has helped to detain suspects. Do not let loose anyone until you are certain they are not involved in the crime.
