A Duo of Friends Arraigned for the Murder of Matthiew Klinck

Brandon Anderson

On Wednesday, two teenagers from Santa Elena, Cayo were detained for the vicious and sensational murder of Canadian filmmaker Matthiew Klinck. Klinck’s body was found at the house he lived in at Selena near Spanish Lookout. He had been stabbed fourteen times in his face and upper body. Early this morning, based on confession statements, those teenagers were arraigned for the murder of Klinck. It is suspected that Klinck was killed on Saturday by the nineteen year old and his sixteen year old accomplice. News Five’s Mike Rudon has been following the investigation since the discovery of the body and has the update.

The senseless murder of Canadian Matthiew Klinck continues to make headlines in his native land and in the country he has called home since 2011. Following the discovery of his decomposing body on Monday night Police have been meticulous in the processing of the scene, gathering evidence and immediately canvassing of the area. That investigative work seems to have paid off, just days after the brutal killing of the local film maven.

“San Ignacio Police lay charges on two persons today for the crimes of Murder and Conspiracy to Commit Murder. One of the persons charged is Brandon Anderson, a nineteen year old resident of Loma Luz Boulevard, Santa Elena town, as well as a minor from Santa Elena. They were both charged jointly and were arraigned this morning in front of the San Ignacio Magistrate Court.”

Police are confident that they have the right persons in custody, even more certain because both teenagers have confessed, to some degree.

“We have statements that were recorded. We have confession statements from each one of them. And we also have some sort of evidence that we gathered at the scene during the investigation which we could link to the murder of Mr. Klinck. After consultation with our legal advisor, and with the Management team that investigated. We know that we have evidence surrounding the matter and that we could have laid charges against both persons and that’s why today we concluded by charging them.”

The two teenagers have allegedly admitted to planning the murder of Klinck, including buying gloves and obtaining the motorcycle which would get them to the murder scene. Neither of them has admitted to stabbing the Canadian, who called Brandon Anderson a friend. Police have allegedly also retrieved large sums of money from both men – Anderson, and the minor, which they believe was stolen from Klinck.

ASP Reymundo Reyes

“We believe that robbery was the motive for the murder, reason being that we recovered cash as evidence which will be presented at the end of the day in Court. We have evidence where one of the accused was seen going to the residence of the gentleman on the day we believe he was murdered.”

Police are exploring the possibility that a third person was involved, but say that it seems unlikely at this point, since neither of the persons in custody have made any allusion to an accomplice. Mike Rudon for News Five.

On January fifth Brandon Anderson posted on his Facebook page, “R.I.P. to my very good friend Matthew Clinck…he’s honest and very kind person – we all will miss you bro.” The family of Matthiew Klinck visited the Cayo Police Station following the arraignment, and met with Deputy Commander and investigating officer Inspector Reymundo Reyes. A memorial service in remembrance of the murdered Canadian will be held in Spanish Lookout at two p.m. on Saturday.

Well , I must say that the PD has moved rapidly on Matthiew’s case and hopefully have the right thugs. Congrats to the officers involved . . . good job! Just hope that they don’t screw up the evidence this time and we get a conviction.

    3 lives wasted.

  3. Marie says:

You and your accomplice are Really Stupid; if you called him a friend & you needed money, I am sure he would have given it to you. Now I hope you spend no less than 20yrs locked up in a prison cell. RIP

Spoke with Matthiew several times when he was shooting the soap opera and share information on film equipment. I am heart broken that he brought his talent to my country of Belize only to be a victim of fools who befriended him and had greed seduced them to take his life. My condolences to his family. Belize lost a kind man and a great talent.

  5. CEO says:

Criminals commit crimes ONLY when they think they can get away with the crime.

When more and better work is done by the police (like in this case) these senseless murders will reduce by a very large percentage.

I trust that they have the correct persons in custody so I say good job to the Police.

As a reminder to the police: you need the public’s trust and respect. So conduct yourself in like manner to gain that needed trust and respect. Your oath is to serve and protect!

  6. Stefan Sjogelid says:

How do we know the right people were arrested. Torture makes people confess to stuff they haven’t done.

  7. Stefan Sjogelid says:

Torture is often used to get people to falsely confess to crimes.

There’s probably more to this than even the police know.
