El Chapo Recaptured in Mexico

There is major news and cause for celebration today in Mexico where the world’s most wanted man is back in the hands of the police. At a predawn operation around four o’clock this morning, the notorious drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo’’ Guzman was recaptured in the town of Los Mochies, in Sinaloa, his home state and stronghold.  There was a reported exchange of fire when the Mexican navy stormed a house he was hiding at. Five persons were killed including his bodyguards and six others were injured.  El Chapo was rushed away and later escorted by jet to an undisclosed location.  Six months ago in July, he escaped from prison in Altiplano slipping through a hole in the prison cell and fleeing through a tunnel that led to a construction site. He was on the run since then until this morning when he was recaptured for the third time. His recapture was announced by the Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on twitter and spread like wildfire across the world. It simply read: Mission accomplished, “I want to inform Mexicans that Joaquín Guzmán Loera has been detained.” Pena Nieto later gave a press conference saying the recapture was carried out by Mexican security forces which constantly monitored his movements. The recapture has been met with applause from all corners including the Drug Enforcement Agency. El Chapo is the head of the multibillion-dollar Sinaloa cartel, a ruthless drug trafficking organization.
