Delta begins weekly service to Belize

Story PictureBelize’s tourism industry has received an early Christmas present, just in time for the holiday rush. On Saturday, Delta Airlines made the first of what will hopefully be many scheduled arrivals at the Philip Goldson International Airport. Experiencing the traditional inaugural wetting from the Fire Service, the Boeing 737 brought close to a hundred passengers from Delta’s hub of Atlanta, Georgia. Although the flight begins as a weekly non-stop service. It is believed that the frequency could be easily upgraded as demand increases. Cutting the ribbon at ceremonies following the landing were Minister of Tourism Mark Espat and Delta’s Latin America and Caribbean Chief, James Sarvis. Delta is a strong player in funnelling passengers from the U.S. midwest and east coast to points south, as well the transatlantic trade. The weekly flight leaves Atlanta’s Hartsfield International Airport every Saturday at ten thirty a.m., arriving in Belize at twelve forty in the afternoon. The return flight leaves the P.G.I.A. at two fifteen, arriving in Atlanta at six ten. Delta joins American, Continental and U.S. Air as the major U.S. carriers providing service to Belize via direct flights from Atlanta, Miami, Dallas, Houston and Newark.
