31 Taiwanese Scholarships Available for 2016

John Chang

Tertiary level students interested in furthering their academic pursuits abroad are being encouraged to apply for a scholarship opportunity in Taiwan.  The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has announced that there are a total of thirty-one full scholarships available for 2016 for the TaiwanICDF program, as well as the Taiwan MOFA program.  Since its inception there have been almost three hundred students who have taken advantage of the opportunity to pursue Bachelors, Masters and PhDs in Taiwan.  News Five spoke with First Secretary John Chang earlier today.

John Chang, First Secretary, Embassy of Taiwan

“In the past, we are in total from 2002 and 2004 to 2015…for the past ten years, we have already granted two hundred and eighty-four Belizeans scholarships for degrees from bachelors, masters to PhD in Taiwan. And there are already one hundred and forty, half of them, already come back here to the country.”

Isani Cayetano

“In terms of interests that this particular scholarship fair generates, what have you seen in the number of students who apply for this opportunity?”

John Chang

“By average, these past five years…because we have two kinds of scholarship; one we call the Taiwan ICDF Scholarship. That one is English taught and it has around every year twenty different school for thirty programs. Many get their masters degree program and another ten for PhD and bachelor and they vary from different fields, like agriculture, business, trade and ICT….every field different. In the past five years, there are about twenty Belizean students accepted. And then the other one we call the Taiwan MOFA scholarship. This one is taught one year….before they go to school, they are taught one year Mandarin. That one, every year, we get about four or five. For example, like last year 2015, we got twenty-two accepted for the ICDF, which is taught in English and fur for the Taiwan scholarship which is taught in Mandarin. So, about twenty-four or twenty-six roughly every year.”
