ComPol Whylie: Klinck Murder Case Handled Competently and Comprehensively

Matthiew Klinck

Canadian film-maker Matthiew Klinck was murdered at his home near Spanish Lookout sometime over the weekend. He was last seen alive on Saturday at around four, and on Monday night his decomposing body was discovered by two friends, accompanied by the property’s caretaker. He had been stabbed fourteen times in the face, neck and upper body. Because Klinck was a Canadian citizen, and a local film-industry celeb, the case has drawn major scrutiny here at home and overseas. That scrutiny is certainly not lost on Police investigators, though today Police Commissioner Allen Whylie told News Five they are handling the case as they would any other murder – competently and comprehensively.

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“We are concerned whenever any murders occur; one murder that occurs is one murder too much. I am familiar with the case. I believe all crimes, once it is reported, it goes viral with the kind of technology we have today. The investigators, like all other investigations, will be doing all they can to solve that case as well as the other cases of murders, as well as the other cases of burglaries; as well as the other cases of robberies. Once we are satisfied that we have done all that is humanly possible to solve the case and we are unable to, then I am satisfied. Wherever you are….you are in Belize, crime will occur; you are in the U.S., crime will occur; you are in the Caribbean, crime will occur; you are in Europe, crime will occur. Murders will occur; it is a matter of how you deal with it. And so we are dealing with it. As you know, it is a remote area, but the investigators are out trying to put the pieces together.”

“Is there any development since between yesterday and today?”

Allen Whylie

“Not to my knowledge, but I can check with the investigators after this.”

The family of Klinck is expected in the country on Thursday. A remembrance service will be held at the Fountain of Life Church in Spanish Lookout on Saturday at two p.m.

  1. Hatari says:

How can he say competently when their conviction rate hovers around 4 to 6%. There is nothing competent about that.

  2. Sherri says:

It was announced on the news that they had a lead! A suspect!!! Now the Commissioner of Police is stating that they have no new evidence or any updates..are you kidding me??!!
