Still No Charges in San Ignacio Police Station Rape Case

Via Phone: Col. George Lovell (Ret'd)

Three days after an outrageous allegation by a twenty-five year old woman that she was raped by a Police Constable while detained at the San Ignacio Police Station, an investigation is still ongoing. And no charges have yet been laid against the accused. According to the alleged victim, from Bullet Tree, a policeman took her into a dark room while she was in custody, held a gun to her head and raped her. Police in San Ignacio have refused to give any comment on the matter, though it was indicated that the alleged rapist had been detained for questioning in the matter. On Tuesday, News Five spoke to CEO in the Ministry of national Security George Lovell who told us that he had been promised a definitive conclusion in the investigation by Tuesday evening.

“There is a report, an allegation of alleged rape that was made on Sunday afternoon. The victim…I’m not going to call her name for obvious reasons…it’s rape and we don’t want her name to be aired unless the victim herself would want this to be out there – but there is an allegation of an individual who at the time was in Police custody at the San Ignacio Police Station and she made an allegation of being raped. The allegation is currently under investigation and before the end of day there will be an announcement as to what action the Police Department will take in regards to this allegation.”

There was no release by Tuesday evening, and since Colonel Lovell has been the only person forthcoming in the alleged rape, we checked back with him. He assured us the delay was caused solely by the department’s insistence on carrying out a comprehensive investigation, and there will be some action by midday on Thursday. In the meantime, the alleged rapist has been released pending the conclusion of that investigation, since he would not have been held for more than forty-eight hours.
