New Director of Health Services Named

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

There is a new Director of Health Services at the Ministry of Health…well at least he’s the interim DHS until formalities are completed.  Head of the Epidemiology Unit, Doctor Marvin Manzanero has vacated that post and moves up the ladder as the new DHS. The post became vacant early this year after former DHS Michael Pitts retired and was replaced by Doctor Ramon Figueroa. After the general elections in early November, however, Figueroa was appointed as Chief Executive Officer at the Ministry of Health. But who will take over from Doctor Manzanero at the epidemiology unit?

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Interim Director of Health Services

“There was a transition earlier this month. As you know, the previous Director of Health Services was Doctor Figueroa after Doctor Pitts had left. When he was moved to the office of the C.E.O., I was asked to hold over so I am the Director of Health Services for now. There hasn’t been a full transition of the Epidemiology Unit—as you recall, I was also doing the HIV/AIDS desk—so some of those activities are being split up with the staff that is there. But there’s all intention to fill in those posts. So in the next couple of months, those posts should be filled as we are transition in terms of management at the Ministry of Health structure.”

Duane Moody

“And then you become the DHS fulltime?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“That is, I think, the intention.”
