MoH Will Take Proactive Stance on Health Issues

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

Doctor Manzanero has hit the ground running, meeting with technical advisors and other officials to plan a way forward for improved healthcare services. Doctor Manzanero told News Five that his plan, and that of the Ministry of Health, is to take a proactive stands in addressing health issues and to improve the internal communication structure between healthcare facilities and the ministry.

Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Interim Director of Health Services

“I mean the intention has always been and we’ve already had meetings with the technical advisors; we already had a meeting with ambassadors this past Monday; we had a meeting with the UN team group on Monday. I think the common objective is having an improved health system. I think we are all long that same line and both Minister Marin and Minister Campos and C.E.O. Figueroa and I think we are trying to transmit that message to all our technical advisors and the regional management teams. It’s having an improved health system; that is the intention…trying to take a more proactive stands rather than being a little bit on the reactive side. I mean it is a lot of work and we are already doing elements of that.”

“So what were some of the first things that you are doing as interim [DHS]?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“One is meeting with all the technical advisors to see what it is that they are doing on the ground. We already had a first interaction with media because it was World Aids Day this Monday and Tuesday. The idea is to start showcasing the work that we do from all the technical advisors. I mean we have so many things that are happening positively at the Ministry of Health. We have lots of things happening in vector control, nutrition, laboratory…there are so much things to be said. So we have met initially with them trying to tease out what’s really happening and seeing how we can improve that on the ground.”

Duane Moody

“Was there anything that you saw that needs immediate attention?”

Dr. Marvin Manzanero

“Umm, not necessarily. I think it is just trying to improve our communication structure internal to the Ministry of Health. Obviously if you improve that, then you can improve your communication structure going to the public and I think that’s where we are working now.”
