Pook brothers Murder Trial Nears Conclusion

In the Supreme Court, the trial of three Belize City brothers, Michael, Ryan and Adrian Pook is coming to an end. This morning, the trio was called to answer to the charge of murder in the chopping and stabbing death of Errol Ferguson, aka “Lighter,” which occurred on Administrative Drive and Mahogany Street Extension on May fifth, 2011. The prosecution led by Sheneiza Smith of the D.P.P.’s office is relying heavily on a statement given to police by her main witness, Altreed Williams who was a friend of Ferguson. But he later turned hostile witness claiming he never gave police a statement in which he purportedly said he saw Michael chop Ferguson twice on the head while Ryan and Adrian stabbed him in the chest.  Prosecutor Smith is also relying on two other police witnesses, the first who placed one of the brothers at a house near the crime scene, and the second is the police officer who recorded a caution statement given by Michael. Defence attorneys, Leeroy Banner, Oscar Selgado and Kathleen Lewis all made no case submissions. It is the prosecution case that the brothers acted together in a joint enterprise when they chopped and stabbed Ferguson. The trial continues.
