It’s Hopes Week for Young Table Tennis Athletes

Organized under the auspices of the International Table Tennis Federation Education and Training Program, in liaison with the Belize Table Tennis Association, ping pong expert Aleksey Yefremov is hosting a Hopes training camp in Belize City.  It is Hopes Week 2015 and young athletes under the age of twelve are receiving technical support in strengthening their skills in the sport.  The weeklong camp comes ahead of a competition on Saturday during which a local champion will be selected to participate in a regional tournament.  Yefremov spoke with News Five earlier today.

“This national training camp is for ages under 12 years and it’s like a first stage training camp. We are here for one week of session and at the end it will be a tournament which will chose two players to continue. We don’t have a lot of time to work with them, this is my first time in Belize and I see the players. We working mostly on the technical aspects because we need to improve there and technical syncs with training and some combination of strokes, so after service and after receiving service they are pretty good and they are also doing multiple practices which I am satisfied with. We have two players from this tournament which will be chosen for continental hope week which will be next year and this will be a good opportunity for them. After this training camp we will have the competition to choose them. There are many people starting to play table tennis yearly and the ages are form 7 to 6 years and after 12 years they have already improved and the technical aspects are good now. We are teaching a format for national federations and it’s a good opportunity to choose the best players to participate in world and international tournaments.”
