…Will Utility Company Appeal Decision?

Michael Novelo

It was a triumphant moment for the six employees who have faced real hardship following and based on their termination from the utility company. Today, they told us that against all odds they stayed the course and can now serve as an example to other employees facing victimization at BWS.

Michael Novelo, Former BWS Employee

“We have sent a message to the company that we are not here just for you to shove around. Employees have voice and as a reference to other employees to do the same. You don’t have to sit down and take it. You have a lot of employees at that place taking a battering from the management. You need to come out. Don’t be afraid. We are testimony.”

“I put out resumes; I filled out forms, and two incidents I encountered when I went to a job site. One was on the Northern road but I won’t call the establishment. When I got there they had already hired me and everything. They made me get an upgrade to my driver’s license to drive a six wheel truck. I went and did all of that. I went to the bank when they told me to go to the bank so my pay could go in. They had already hired me. They gave me the date to go in. On the day when I went in the supervisor at the warehouse told me Mr. Mckoy come into the office. When I went into the office the man told me like this. You were very honest, but you did not get a good recommendation from BWS.”

“We were basically abandoned by our union, and as opposed to just laying over and taking it for what it was, I want the public to see that there are other things you can do to protect yourself and to clear your own name. Like Mr. Novelo said, justice is still out there. Sometimes it just takes a little effort and a lot of patience and understanding.”

“It taught us a lesson that we should hang in there, hang together. What it really taught us too was to keep up the fight no matter what.”
