Police Need More Vehicles to Patrol Southside

Chester Williams

While the decrease in crime is significant and welcome, Williams says that if the police had the resources they needed, they would be able to do much more. Lack of resources is a constant cry in the Department, and in this case there is a sore need for vehicles to patrol the Southside. While there is a need for ten, Williams says they only have two which are in working condition.

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams, Regional Commander, Eastern Division South

“We have received two additional vehicles, one assigned to Precinct One and one to Precinct Two so we continue to build on our fleet. We are not where we want to be. We have applied to the US Embassy through the CARSI program for ten vehicles. As I have said before in order for us to be able to effectively police the Southside the way we want to police it, we need ten vehicles. Currently we’re halfway there. We have five. Of the five we know that three are not in good working condition, but we try to do the best we can with them. Despite the deficiency in terms of our resources we try not to complain. We try to be as effective as we can with what we have. Because at the end of the day we have the public to serve and in so doing we want to be able to serve them in a way that they deserve to be serves. I am very optimistic that in the not so distant future we’ll be getting those vehicles that we requested from the US Embassy. And once we get those then I can pretty much say then that we will be where we want to be in terms of our vehicular resources. And then you’ll be able to see more effective work being done by the Police.”

  1. Hatari says:

I agree, they definitely need more vehicles BUT they definitely need to learn how to take care of them. The U.S. keeps giving vehicles and the cops keep tearing them up. There is no accountability which stems from no supervision which breeds the “I don’t give a shit” attitude that most police officers display to us, the citizens that are paying their salaries.
