Mother Seeks Assistance for Daughters Injured in Ladyville RTA

A single mother is desperately seeking assistance after two of her daughters, one six and one nine, were knocked down last week in Ladyville. Currently the girls, one of them critically injured, are receiving treatment at the Belize Medical Associates thanks to insurance provided by the driver of the vehicle, but Marla Encalada fears that it may not be enough. Encalada also claims that her younger daughter’s injuries were complicated by the negligence of doctors at the K.H.M.H. who botched her surgery. While Encalada pleads for help, the Police continue to investigate the accident.

“They saw two minors, two minor females suffering from various degrees of injuries. They were transported to the BDF Camp for medical attention and later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they still remain. Investigations revealed that they were knocked by a Ford 150 pickup driven at the time by Edward Bennett of Army Camp Road. The matter is under investigation. Edward Bennett was issued with a Notice of Intended Prosecution and the investigation still continues.”

“There was an accident in Ladyville that they hit my two babies. They ran over the two of them. The oldest girl has a fractured pelvis…the bigger girl has a fractured left wrist…the baby girl has…the right pelvis is fractured and the left pelvis is broken. And she has damage to her private area. They had to rush them in critical condition to the KHMH. We stayed at the KHMH for two to three days and then the insurance put us here at Medical because Karl Heusner wasn’t doing their job. She was passing the stool from her vagina. They needed to rush her into a next surgery here to re-surgery the same surgery that Karl Heusner did for her. They re-surgeried that so that they could give her a stool bag. She has a stool-bag on the left side of the tummy. She is in a real state that she cannot move, she’s frustrated…she has steel in her knee part to bring back the pelvis together.”

Encalada says she will follow up on her allegations of negligence at the K.H.M.H., but currently she is unable to leave her children for any period of time. If you’d like to help, you can deposit to Belize Bank account number 230822 in the name of Marla Encalada.
