Father & Son Fight For Life Following Shooting on Halloween Night

Elvis Godoy Senior & Junior

There was violence in Belmopan and San Ignacio over the weekend. In the outskirts of the capital, two men on motorcycles wearing Halloween masks rode up to a home in the San Martin area, where a number of persons were gathered. One of the men drew a weapon and fired into the crowd. Police have confirmed that a five year old was shot in the face and two others had to be rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Duane Moody reports.

Twenty-seven year old Elvis Godoy Senior and his five year old are tonight at the K.H.M.H. fighting for their lives after they were shot multiple times on Saturday night as they socialized at their home in the San Martin area in the outskirts of Belmopan. Around eight p.m. as residents celebrated Halloween, two men wearing masks rode up on a motorcycle and the backseat passenger pulled out a firearm sending a barrage of bullets in the direction of the Godoys.

“I wasn’t here when it happened. I was out and when I came home, it had already happened. Two men on motorcycles rode up and stopped and started shooting without saying anything. There were a lot of persons out here. It wasn’t only them. There were several friends drinking and the baby was inside playing with the game. Unfortunately the baby came out to show his father the game and it was at that time that the shooting happened and the baby got hit as well. Like how it was Halloween, they were dressed in full black and wearing masks. They were two on the bicycles. And it was the person sitting in the back that fired the shots.”

Both Elvis Senior and Elvis Junior as well as his twin brother, twenty-seven year old Josel Godoy were hit. The father and son, however, were gravely injured and rushed from the Western Regional Hospital on to the K.H.M.H.

“One of them was more badly injured that the other. The baby was shot to the hand, in the feet and in the face by the mouth. The other has one in the lower back, in the feet as well and here by the chin. Elvis is the more critical one. The doctors are saying that in the case of Elvis, today at four o’clock they will need to see how he is doing because on Sunday he had a surgery to remove the bullet from his back.”

Arturo Godoy says that he does not know his sons to have enemies and believes that the attack was random.

“To my knowledge, they don’t have problems with anybody. They are both men and they leave how they please without saying anything to me. So I don’t know.”
