Concrete Streets Held Up Well

Darrell Bradley

While the flooding was arguably the worst in recent memory, by today the waters had subsided and, boasts Mayor Bradley, the cement streets held up. According to Bradley, while the situation is a bad one, it could have been much worse.

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“Our concrete roads have held up substantially. So that when you look at an area like Central American Boulevard which in these types of rains would be overrun by potholes. When you look at Freetown Road, Barrack Road, Craig Street…when you look at Orange Street – when we cemented that it was only asphalted two years before and after small rains that had heavy potholes. So that when you’ve driving throughout the city at least you had water on the streets, but you didn’t have to worry whether you would be stalled or fall into a pothole because the cement roads are functioning. So that this is not a cop-off in terms of saying that all is well in the city, but there have been substantial improvements and our focus on the infrastructure and our focus on drainage has yielded some dividends.”
