Separate robberies leave 1 injured, 1 detained

Separate robberies in Belize City have left one man suffering from gunshot wounds to the head and another in police custody. According to authorities, the first incident took place on Tuesday morning at grocery store on Caesar Ridge Road. News 5 understands that thirty-five year old Wayne Rowland and a friend were outside Ming’s Shop loading their purchases into their vehicle when a man with short dreadlocks walked up to them and put a gun to Rowland’s head. A second thief then pulled up and stole Rowland’s wallet. But suddenly and without warning, the gunman pulled the trigger, hitting Rowland on the right side of his head. The injured man was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he has since been treated and released. Up to news time tonight the two robbers had yet to be arrested. In response to this incident and several other armed hold-ups in the area, the department says it will increase the number of patrols on the south side of the city.

Meanwhile a teenaged student was also held up at gunpoint, this time for his bicycle, but tonight one suspect in that case is behind bars pending charges. According to the fourteen year old, he was riding home on Monday night around nine, but while on McKay Street in the St Martin’s De Porres area, two men walked up to him. The youth says one man pulled out a handgun while the other took away his black Beach Cruiser. Quick work by the authorities have led to the recovery of the bicycle and the detention of a nineteen year old. His accomplice is still being sought. If you have any information that can assist the police in either of these cases, please contact the nearest police station or 9-2-2.
