Rogers Running Against Sedi in Pickstock

Patrick Rogers

So, Rogers is offering himself as the third party candidate in Pickstock.  He says his campaign budget is in the area of fifty thousand dollars, but is it enough to leave a lasting impression in the minds of his constituents?

Patrick Rogers, Party Leader, BPP

“We said, if Mr. Barrow noh wahn move Sedi mek we staat by trying to remove him wihself by putting myself in the Pickstock Division and give me enough support around to see if we can make the impossible very possible.  Yo hyah weh ah seh Belize, we, cause dah noh bout me.  I dah one lee man but collectively we can invoke the godhead and have miracles performed on this earth when da wah we believe.”

Isani Cayetano

“Understandably now, the party as nascent as it is at this point will be throwing a majority of its resources behind you in order to unseat Minister Elrington or Mister Elrington from the Pickstock Division.”

Patrick Rogers

“It wouldn’t be the majority but we would put a lot of resources in Pickstock for sure but it won’t be the majority.  It’s just that you need to have a certain amount of resources to realistically give yourself a winning shot.  So we have identified a threshold that we believe should be sufficient which is more resource than we’ve ever put into any candidate before and ih noh wahn be no million, ih noh wahn be no hundreds of thousands.  We no spend like that but it will definitely be more than the thirty-two thousand that I spent on my 2008 campaign.  My 2003 campaign I spent about twenty-seven thousand dollars.  So we’re figuring with a budget over fifty thousand to seventy-five thousand with wahn lot of in-kind donations that we will be receiving and a lot of sweat equity that people from the division are working with us, requiring that stipend and things the way the mass parties, people from the division are working without requiring that stipend and things the way the mass parties have to be paying campaigners and canvassers.”

Isani Cayetano

“What does this mean should the BPP, let’s say of all the constituencies that you guys contest, and you lose all but one?  For argument’s sake you were to emerge victorious in Pickstock, what does that mean for the overall dynamic, in terms of going to parliament?”

Patrick Rogers

“Now, when you create wahn crack eena wahn solid piece of whatever, once there’s a crack in there you put a wedge and you hammer that wedge and you bust it open.  That one win would represent a crack in their system and the subsequent election, the myth that it can’t be done, the myth that it was impossible, that myth would have been shattered with one of us winning.  It doesn’t have to be me in Pickstock, it could be Brother Wil who is a strong candidate down there in Toledo as well.”
